How Legit Are These ‘Firefly’ Reboot Talks This Time?

It seems like we go through these ‘Firefly’ reboot talks more often than Barry Allen resets the timeline.  So should we get excited about it this time or just go back to watching the DVD’s again?

I do think that if it were ever going to happen, the right set of circumstances is now. There are a couple reasons us “Browncoats” can be cautiously optimistic this time.

Fox’s President of Entertainment David Madden has announced that the studio is on board under the condition that Joss Whedon returns to quarterback the initiative.

In a 2013 Buzzfeed interview, Joss Whedon stated that he was too busy with other projects (Marvel & a sequel to Dr. Horrible’s Sing-A-Long Blog), Nathan Fillion was tied up on Castle and Morena Baccarin had a recurring role on Homeland.

However, fast forward to today and Whedon is no longer as actively involved in the Marvel universe (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. aside) and Castle has been canceled.  Without Whedon there is no Firefly and Fillion is the main star and most recognizable member of the original cast.  Without one, I don’t think the other is on board.

Baccarin (Gotham and assumably Deadpool 2),  Alan Tudyk (Star Wars Rogue One  & Powerless) & Gina Torres (Suits) have all been steadily busy since the 1st airing of Firefly in 2002, but could possibly juggle their schedules to accommodate.  Likewise with the rest of the on screen talent.

I would love to see this project come through and my fingers are crossed, but unfortunately, I do think the odds of this phoenix rising are slim.

Anything can happen in the ‘verse.
