Top 10 Taco Bell Menu Items Ranked! Geeky Daddy Vs. Thrillist!

A food critic for the Thrillist decided he would subject his digestive system to the fast food equivalent of a Fear Factor style gauntlet of torment. So he tasted and ranked all of Taco Bell’s 53 regular menu items!

I just wanted to get the attention of all the pot heads out there…

I would love to participate in a study such as this, but I’ve got a kid.

And with another on the way, I can’t afford to take such liberties with my life anymore…

One can only imagine that after this level of digestive conditioning, this food critic’s colon would have no trouble processing anything, up to and including meteors of Kryptonite.

Taco Bell does hold a special place in my heart (burn) as my favorite go-to fast food destination. I have written about them many times in the past, including when they launched their Wedding Package at their Las Vegas Taco Bell Cantina and when they launched their (very underwhelming) Nacho Fries.

So when I heard that Thrillist author Wil Fulton tried and ranked all the Taco Bell regular menu items, I had to see how his list compared to mine!

I don’t want to take up your entire work day, so I am going to streamline this to comparing My Top 10 Taco Bell Regular Menu Items to His. The two list are surprisingly similar with a slightly different order.

Top Ten Regular Taco Bell Menu Items: Geeky Daddy vs. Thrillist:

10. Breakfast Crunch Wrap (Thrillist rank #7)

Taco Bell does a lot of things right, but breakfast simply is not one of them. Having said that, we both agreed this was by far the best item on the morning menu. Which is the equivalent of claiming the title of the world’s tallest dwarf…

9. Soft Taco (Thrillist Rank #1)

The place is called Taco Bell so I guess if they couldn’t get the taco right, they would have some serious problems. The soft taco is a basic, simple easy-to-eat item for a meal or a snack and a whole lot less messy than its crunchy sibling.

The Thillist author ranked the soft taco their #1. Maybe he is simply more of a traditionalist than I am.

8. Nacho BellGrande/Supreme (Thrillist Rank #8)

The Nacho BellGrande/Supreme is basically everything yummy about taco slopped together on a plate for the sole intent of giving the SPORK purpose in life and a reason to exist.

Geeky Daddy and Thrillist saw eye-to-eye on this one.

7. Beefy Fritos Borrito (Thrillist Rank #38)

What the heck happened here Thrillist!?! I agree that the Fritos partnership doesn’t work as well as the Doritos. And the Fritos leaves the beef a little saltier, but that is exactly why Taco Bell has so many Mt. Dew Flavors! Simply wash it down and enjoy dude!

6. Beefy Nacho Loaded Griller (Thrillist Rank #24)

Well we certainly differed on opinion on this one as well! I don’t really understand what there is not to love about this beefy cheesy beauty. Maybe the Thrillist is just not a Fritos fan?

5. Cinnamon Twists (Thrillist Rank #5)

One thing we can all agree on however is dessert! And nothing screams dessert like this sugary cinnamony yumminess!

4. Nacho Cheese Doritos Locos Taco Supreme (Thrillist Rank #4)

We both agreed on the Nacho Cheese being the best flavor of the Taco Bell/Dorito hybrid shell. I have not seen any data, but I gotta believe this is the #1 item ordered by half-stoned, half-drunk partiers in the drive-thru after the bars close.

Full Disclosure: I am not a huge Cool Ranch fan in the first place which probably impacted my decision. Especially after seeing the Hidden Valley Ranch Fountain

3. Cheesy Gordita Crunch (Thrillist Rank #6)

This is one of my favorite menu items at ‘The Bell’ and one of the best to customize!

Next time you order this double-shelled slice of heaven, ask them to substitute the Doritos Locos Taco shell into the Gordita! It is a slight up-charge of 20 cents (although they forget to charge you with it most the time anyway) but ohh…so worth it!

2. Mexican Pizza (Thrillist Rank #2)

Once again, great fast food minds thought alike and we both ranked this circle of goodness the runner-up on our lists.

And how could we not? I mean it combines the heart and soul of Taco Bell with a friggin’ pizza!

1. Double Cheesy Gordita Crunch (Thillist Rank #10)

I am not sure why the Double Cheesy Gordita Crunch barely cracked Thrillist Top Ten. He said it was just too much beef, but I argue you can’t have too much of a good thing.

We are taking everything that made the Cheesy Gordita #3 (on my list anyway) and improving upon that solid foundation.

Again, substitute the Doritos Locos Taco shell into this engineering masterpiece.

  1. I have had a love/hate relationship with Taco Bell. (Work for them for a while and you’ll understand.) I got so burnt out on some of these items that I still won’t touch them years later. My favorites are the Beefy Frito Burrito, the Chalupa, the Gordita, and the Quesarito. I miss the Choco Tacos that they used to have when I was a kid. It also makes a difference if you go to a franchise, a Taco Bell Corp. owed, a Tacala owned, or any other owned location. Some locations cannot make certain items to save their lives. (My local location makes a taco worse than a 2-year old that is throwing a tantrum. It is even worse if it is hard-shelled.)

  2. This is very interesting! I haven’t been to taco bell in 16 years so I haven’t heard of half the items on your list… but it kind of makes me crave some good old fashion taco bell!

  3. I live in London (U.K) and have found out very recently that a Taco Bell has opened up here!! I’ve never been to the states but have always wanted to try Taco Bell and now I can! Hopefully they stock the things on this list and I can try them (but not all at once!) I’m really looking forward to trying the Cinnamon twists, they look and sound amazing!

  5. Taco Bell’s Chalupas and Chicken Quesadillas have been my go-to favorites ever since high school. I’m a bit disappointed they didn’t make your list, but the Cheesy Gordita Crunch is definitely third on my list of favorites!
