Well this is disappointing.

This rumor has been circulating for a little while now and Affleck has now confirmed it with an official release.

Per Affleck’s official release: “There are certain characters who hold a special place in the hearts of millions. Performing this role demands focus, passion and the very best performance I can give. It has become clear that I cannot do both jobs to the level they require. Together with the studio, I have decided to find a partner in a director who will collaborate with me on this massive film. I am still in this, and we are making it, but we are currently looking for a director. I remain extremely committed to this project, and look forward to bringing this to life for fans around the world.”

Ben Affleck is a very talented director with accomplishments such as “The Town” and “Argo” under his utility belt (see what I did there) and I was looking forward to seeing what he could do in the superhero genre.

One thing to note is that the official release makes no specific mention of the screenwriting for “The Batman”. Since Affleck used the term “collaborate” it does seem possible that he will remain involved in the screenwriting.  Geoff Johns has been co-writing the script with Affleck.

Forbes does list a few possible replacements for Affleck as director, although no list has been confirmed by Warner Bros.

“The Batman” is not the only recent DC Comics movie to lose a director.  Wonder Woman lost it’s initial director and The Flash has gone through two.

Who are some directors you would like to see helm “The Batman”?
